Koriass album art by Catherine d’Amours

Head to Villeray’s Espace Projet for the vernissage of Pleurer des souvenirs, an exhibition of new illustration and collage works by graphic designer and illustrator Catherine d’Amours, director of the design studio Nouvelle Administration who’s previously created designs for book and album covers and worked with major international labels such as Comme des Garçons. Live music will be provided by electro-pop outfit Kroy. 353 Villeray, 6 p.m., free

The 14-piece Belgian band Flat Earth Society drops in at la Sala Rossa for the Canadian debut of their album Terms of Embarrassment, a tribute to Frank Zappa that consists not of covers, but of original music threaded with flavours from the eclectic Zappa catalogue. 4848 St-Laurent, 8 p.m., $18

Multi-instrumentalist and rock singer/songwriter Commander Clark launches his new album Mitchell at the Plant with a full band, with opening sets by electronic and drone projects Mystic Gohan, Witnessing, Dried Leaves and johnny_ripper, plus snacks courtesy of Beaver Sheppard, zines and more. Check out our interview with Commander Clark here. Secret location, 8 p.m., $5 suggested, $10 with download, $15 with CD

Local band Ocean Charter of Values launches an EP called No One Who Was Good Is Good Anymore, which they describe as “somber, sadsack selection of songs.” Openers are High Five, Gentle Mystic and Pompey. Cagibi (5490 St-Laurent), 9 p.m. sharp, $6/$10 with OCV cassette

If boogie-ing is your thing, or something you’d like to try, the high-energy MO of Vancouver’s nine-piece psychedelic funkmasters Five Alarm Funk will barely be contained by intimate Plateau venue Quai des Brumes. 4481 St-Denis, 10 p.m., $15/$12 in advance
