Art by Dominic Voyer

Montreal-based artist Dominic Voyer hosts a vernissage at Galerie Mile End Ame Art for his acrylic paintings from two recent series, @Rosiewaxman and Fhappening, with both series reflecting on themes like self-representation on social media, celebrity culture, gender construction and sexuality. 5345 Parc, 5–11 p.m., free

The fifth edition of Turbo Haus’s monthly Turbo Talks panels should be inspirational for the unemployed or under-employed (or people stuck in shit jobs): I Can’t Believe That’s Your Job: Where Technology, Creativity, Employment and Disbelief Meet, featuring reps from the realms of rental-space design, videogames and GIF art. See more details here. 5011 Notre-Dame W., doors 7:30 p.m., talk 8–10 p.m., $5

Washington, D.C. drone artist Insect Factory (Jeff Barsky) presents his textured and atmospheric sounds at la Passe with openers Dyr Fraser (Boston) and Montrealers Moose Terrific (Sam Shalabi and Tamara Filyavich) plus Nick Schofield. 1214 de la Montagne, 8:30 p.m., $10 suggested

Tonight’s outdoor film screening at Peace Park from the SAT’s Cinéma urbain à la belle étoile series is the 1985 buddy movie Les Goonies, co-written by Steven Spielberg and directed by Richard Donner. (We can’t confirm this 100 per cent, but this almost certainly the dubbed French-language version of the film.) Peace Park (just south of 1182 St-Laurent), 9 p.m., free

Recurring Salon Daomé club night Paradigm and its resident DJ Lexem will be joined by a pillar of the local nightlife scene, Robert de la Gauthier, with VJ BunBun aiding on atmosphere. 141 Mont-Royal E., 10 p.m., cover charge unknown
