David Bowie and Prince

Bob Dylan blows out 75 candles today, and to mark the occasion, a stack of Montreal musicians will be gathering at Club Soda to pay tribute to the great singer-songwriter. See the line-up and more event details here. 1225 St-Laurent, 7:30 p.m., $18/$10 students

Montreal musician Jef Elise Barbara launches a new weekly DJ night at the North Star pinball bar, Introducing They. The inaugural edition also serves as part one of a two-part Prince vs. Bowie event — tonight is a listening session, followed by a dance party at NDQ on Friday night. 3908 St-Laurent, 7:30 p.m., free

The Double Negative Collective hosts the sixth annual Montreal edition of One Take Super 8, a screening night of 30 original three-minute short films shot on Super 8 format by 35 local filmmakers. La Sala Rossa (4848 St-Laurent), 8 p.m., $8

Exhibition space and cocktail bar Fonzie hosts their first Jazz Club night with performances by Patrice Luneau, Felix Telier Pouliot and Charles Bicari, plus art on display by Nick Bodoin, Léa Brisson, WashGoose and Marie-Pier Meilleur. 10 des Pins W., 8 p.m., free

Musicians getting their gear stolen is a far too frequent occurrence, and tonight la Vitrola hosts a benefit show to help out one such unfortunate local (“Julie,” affiliation unknown). The line-up features the Gypsy Kumbia Orchestra, Avec le Soleil Sortant de sa Bouche, Rêves sonores & ari swan and DJ Homogenius. 4602 St-Laurent, 9:30 p.m., $5/PWYC
