Kaytranada

Join free lunch hour dance party Lunch Soul at Jardins Gamelin with DJ Andy Williams of The Goods as part of Place Émilie-Gamelin’s second summer of free outdoor programming. Ste-Catherine E. & Berri, 12–2 p.m., free

Check out the vernissage for a multidisciplinary Art Expo in the South Shore featuring 10 artists based in and around Montreal. The show will be on through May 29. 200 Charron (LeMoyne), 6 p.m.

This year’s edition of the Montreal Underground Film Festival (MUFF) kicks off with a launch party at la Vitrola featuring 19 short film screenings in two sections plus a special scratch guestbook etched into 35mm film, to be screened at the end of the festival. 4602 St-Laurent, 8 p.m., $7

Montreal producer Kaytranada, who was voted #1 Best Electronic Act in this year’s Best of MTL readers poll (and recently came out in an interview with Fader), plays a major hometown launch for what promises to be his breakthrough record, 99.9%. 59 Ste-Catherine E., 8 p.m., $27

Montreal’s symphonic pop trio Syngja brings a full string ensemble, dancers, visual projections and a theremin to their album release show for their debut album Lang Amma tonight at the grand Rialto Theatre. Check out our interview with the band here. 5723 Parc, 8:30 p.m., $14

Fantasia may still be a month and a half away but you can get into the zone at Cinéma du Parc with another eye-popping montage by DJ XL5 — the theme of this “Zappin’ Party” is Spandex, so expect lots of KISS and a tall stack of the ’80s and ’90s hair metal bros that followed. 3575 Parc, 9 p.m., $12.50

Island Frequencies has a real doozy of a show at Casa tonight, presenting six local bands spanning the sonic spectrum from pop psychedelic experimental to darkwave metal: the bands are Hush Pup, YlangYlang and Zones (using this opportunity to launch a new record) and, after an intermission, the Marquis, SAD and Troller (also launching a record). See more details and bands links here. 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $8/$12 (no one turned away for lack of funds)
