Warning: Total aural devastation ahead

Every week, I come up with a big pick, one truly can’t-miss gig that edges out all of the others. But this week it was virtually impossible to pick from two of my favourite bands, who will devastate with sheer heaviosity and musical ascension. Read on my fine furry friends and see if yer hip to my bandwidth spillage.

Thursday: Local psychonauts A Devil’s Din release their second LP, Skylight, with all attendees at O Patro Vys getting a grip on their new ’un, plus DJ Jimmi Quinn spinning the mind altering grooves and a vegetarian buffet set up by Soul Kitch’n. 356 Mont-Royal E., 8 p.m., $10 (includes album & buffet)

The World Provider also releases their new EP, Always, with Douce Angoisse and Besnard Laker gone solo Sheenah Ko warming up le Ritz. 179 Jean-Talon W., 8 p.m., $10/$12

For a night of killer rawk, catch Babysitter, Beat Cops, JLK and Sour Cream at the best li’l swill joint in Mile Ex, Brasserie Beaubien. Tip your bartender Annie heavily – she fuggin’ roolz. 73 Beaubien E., 9:30 p.m., $8/PWYC

Get a load of twangy pop with B.C’s Zuzu’s Petals alongside Morthouse and Des Moines at la Vitrola. 4602 St-Laurent, 10 p.m., $10

Friday: Fans of black metal and thrash can catch the first Canadian date for Germany’s Deasaster with the thrash of Soothsayer and the black metal of Deletre at Piranha. 680 Ste-Catherine W., 8 p.m., $25/$30

The lovely drug creeps at Analogue Addiction are hosting a night at Divan Orange with New Swears, Ol’CD and Barry Paquin Roberge (feat. members of les Breastfeeders). 4234 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $8

Saturday: Okay, I’ve kept you in suspense long enough — here’s the first of my two big picks this week: One of my all-time favourite bands, Nadja, finally pulls up stakes from Berlin and graces us with a show at le Ritz, with openers Evoked Response. This is going to be fucking amazing. If you ever wanted to know how far heavy music can go, this is it. 179 Jean-Talon W., 9 p.m., $12/$15

For expert songwriting, check out the Mighty Ffud when they headline at Petit Campus with Grand Splendid, Sunminds and Different Days. 57 Prince-Arthur E., 8:30 p.m., $5/$10

Another big gig this weekend is happening at Theatre Fairmount, where one of my favourite bands in the city — the Besnard Lakes — let it all hang out with their best budz Wintersleep. Opening is Folly and the Hunter. Proceeds go to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. 5240 Parc, 8 p.m., $12

Speaking of heavyweight shows by local bands, Ought are playing at Matahari Loft with Palm, the absolutely killer sounds of Complications and the Submissives. Better show up early for this if you want to squeeze in. 1373 Mont-Royal E., 9:30 p.m., $10

Monday: My other big pick of the week is the bowel-emptying heaviness of the Body, who will let la Vitrola crumble with Profane Order, Skin and BYHD. All attendees of the Nadja show will want to make this their two-fer for the week. 4602 St-Laurent, 9:30 p.m., $8/$10

Tuesday: The Deadly Mardi DIY shows series continues at Rockette with the Ravens. 4479 St-Denis, 10 p.m., $5/PWYC

One of the best thrash/prog/classic metal bands in the city, Mad Parish, return after a lengthy hiatus with a show at Piranha, alongside Wisconsin’s Lords of the Trident, Devora and Kruhl. 680 Ste-Catherine W., 8 p.m., $10/$12

Down at Casa, you can catch Scroll Downers, Heathers and Gashrat. 4873 St-Laurent, 9:30 p.m., $6/$10/PWYC

Wednesday: For some serious heaviosity, check out Rotten Sound, Ramming Speed and Sights of War at Sala. 4848 St-Laurent, 7:30 p.m., $15/$20
