The Last Dragon

The Last Dragon

The Festival TransAmériques’s parallel program OFFTA kicks off this afternoon with a Pow Wow in Jardins Gamelin featuring a traditional dance performance by Ivanie Aubin-Malo, produced in collaboration with arts org Onishka’s Indigenous Contemporary Scene programming running throughout OFFTA. Ste-Catherine E. & Berri, 5:30 p.m., free

The Ciné Club Film POP hosts a screening of the 1985 cult classic The Last Dragon, a blaxploitation-style kung fu adventure by director Michael Schultz, featuring Prince protégé Vanity (RIP) and a funky Motown soundtrack. Espace POP (5587 Parc), 7 p.m., $5

The Fringe Festival gets going in earnest on June 9, but tonight the fest officially launches its 2016 edition with the Fringe for All, a festive series of live two-minute previews by the local companies that’ll be mounting theatre, dance, comedy and other performance art shows during this year’s Fringe. Café Campus (57 Prince-Arthur E.), 7–11 p.m., free

Sexual violence is no laughing matter, unless you’re a survivor and you say so yourself, like the organizers of the comedy show Rape Is Real and Everywhere have been doing since the show sold out three shows in Vancouver before embarking on a national tour. Check out the Montreal stop featuring headliner Meg Mackay plus Emma Cooper, Heather Jordan Ross and locals Chris Middleton, Natalie Willett and Robyn Flynn. Medley Simple Malt (6206 St-Hubert), 8 p.m., $15
