Local clothing label WRKDEPT launches its Spring 2016 collection with a party that calls back to designer Andy Long Hoang’s roots with special Vietnamese-inspired snacks and drinks, with tunes by DJs M.Bootyspoon and Empress. Spaces are limited, but if you miss the launch you can join the official afterparty at Belmont with DJs Thugli, Ryan Playground, Shaydakiss and Gloze, hosted by DL Jones and Mad Decent. Launch party 407 St-Pierre, 6–10 p.m., free (RSVP required), afterparty 4483 St-Laurent, 10 p.m., $15

Join the Black Theatre Workshop at the Segal Centre for opening night of their new production Binti’s Journey, starring Aiza Ntibarikure as Malawian teenager Binti as she works hard to develop her talents, support her community and find herself, all while dealing with the loss of both of her parents to HIV/AIDS. 5170 Côte-Ste-Catherine, 8 p.m., $15/$10 students

Jef Barbara’s Valentine promises a headlining set by the titular synth-pop artist, with support from Xarah Dion, Cheap Wig, Tess Roby and Klondike, followed by a slow-dance party. The event is a fundraiser for Taking What We Need, an aid organization for low-income transwomen. La Sala Rossa (4848 St-Laurent), 8 p.m., $5/$10/PWYC

Southwest underground venue Bad Lunch throws a BYOB party quite unlike your typical PBR-fest. During tonight’s one-night-only Bring Your Own Beamer exhibition, they’ve invited a slate of visual artists to display their projection-based works and performances through a concept developed by Rafaël Rozendaal that’s been executed internationally over 80 times. Ask organizers for address, 8 p.m., free

Hot French producers Yuksek and Jean Tonique drop in for sets at Newspeak, following local talents Robert Robert & Fonkyson. 1403 Ste-Elisabeth, 9 p.m., $20 in advance (presumably more at the door)

Saintwoods-run bar Apt. 200 re-opens tonight after a couple of weeks off, and to inaugurate the newly renovated bar they’ve invited Parisian party producers the PPP Collective to turn things up with support from local DJ Myfrienderic. 3643 St-Laurent, #200, 10 p.m., cover charge unknown
