Junior Boys, Big Black Coat (City Slang)

I never doubted the eventual return of Jeremy Greenspan’s Junior Boys project, but with the career of Hamiltonian compatriot Jessy Lanza on the rise, one couldn’t help but wonder if Greenspan, who coproduced Lanza’s first album and her upcoming second, was more content in his new role behind the console. It turns out Junior Boys are a reliable, trend-averse adult electropop emergency siren to be pulled on every few years. Lots of “baby’s” in the song titles and lyrics, although he’s always had that Kevin Godley-forlorn vibe going. 8/10
