Restaurant Day

This Sunday, Feb. 21, the ever-more popular neighbourhood home cooking showcase Restaurant Day will hold its biggest winter event yet, with over 30 small-scale pop-ups committed to braving the cold to share their favourite recipes with the public — including several who will be hosting guests inside their homes in a winter workaround to the traditional sidewalk set-up.

In anticipation of this friendly food-fest, we’ve compiled a handy list of highlights to try all over town:



4298 St-Denis

11 a.m.–6 p.m.

Sandwiches are on the menu at this outdoor stop, including grilled tomato and cheese on quinoa bread, grilled beef with cheese and peppers and chicken with avocado and cilantro, plus coffee and tea to warm you up until your next stop.

Boui Boui Tropical

4121 Mentana

12–5 p.m.

Enjoy a selection of tropical snacks like fried plantain, cassava couscous and upside-down pineapple cake, plus fresh hibiscus flower and ginger juices!

Irie Life at White Wall Studios

4532 Laval

11 a.m.–5 p.m.

Spice things up at the White Wall Studio art space with tacos, ceviches, tortas, fruit salad, iced mate teas and more with tunes by Patrick Mocan and Romo.


1237 Rachel E.

2–6 p.m.

Three travellers focus on the UK with a traditional English style afternoon tea, complete with sweet and savoury scones, sandwiches and fudge to go along with your choice of tea.

Tasting Tunisia

2040 de Bullion

11:30 a.m.–7 p.m.

Roomies and Tunisian expats cook up their favourite family recipes using several ingredients brought straight from the homeland for unmatched authenticity, including minced carrot salad, homestyle chicken couscous and a dessert of sweet date Rfissa, along with a very special rosewater Tunisian coffee.

Le Fromentier

11 a.m.–2 p.m.

We’re not sure if an established bakery and cheese shop like Le Fromentier counts as ‘homemade,’ but we’re still going to sample their Restaurant Day offering of gourmet hot dogs with sausage from La Queue de Cochon on artisanal brioche buns with specially prepared mustard, washed down with a Bec Cola.

Give yourself a sweet treat with these homemade waffles topped with your choice of sugar glaze, maple syrup or chocolate sauce

Try some homemade soups with zucchini and cauliflower bacon, plus desserts like crème brûlée with vanilla from Madagascar and Nutella cheesecake.

With a savoury Malaysian menu of Indian and Muslim influence, you’ll find spicy tomato chicken with rice, pineapple cookies and special Malaysian coffee and other quenchers.

Comfort food including grilled cheese, homemade chicken soup, and sweet treats like carrot cake, banana bread and fresh donuts served hot.

Willa Bistrot

A French and Caribbean mash-up featuring a root veggie soup with plantains, manioc and sweet potatoes with Caribbean spices and a main dish of veal with cream sauce with rice cooked with coconut milk.

Cuisine Annapurna + Pies and Ice Cream

A pair of pie enthusiasts team up with caterers Annapurna to create a selection of special curries and empanadas for dinner, with pie and ice cream for dessert.

Who can resist cheesy pierogies on a cold day? Head to Parc-Ex for several varieties of homemade pierogies including classic potato and cheese, caramelized onions, sweet potato and duck confit and bacon and chives, and pair them all with some home-brewed beer!

Rosemont – La Petite-Patrie

Le Gros Bistrot II

This pop-up by three French chefs offers a trio of special regional menus including salmon rillettes from île de Ré, olive tapenade from Basque country and beef bourguignon from Burgundy.

5–10 p.m.

The arts collective Skinjackin shows off their mad cooking skills with a pop-up restaurant plus art exhibition featuring a varied menu with vegan aloo gobi and scones, Italian-style veal meatballs with arugula, spicy mango salad and lemon pie. Those with the right appetite can also get a temporary tattoo drawn by a team member!


Nice to Meet You

1000 Ottawa

6–9 p.m.

This Griffintown kitchen is offering up Chinese specialties like eggplant and tofu stew, wontons, chicken or beef noodles and beer chicken, plus some other tasty surprises.

Hen House

750 St-Philippe

11 a.m.–5 p.m.

Sample some Trinidadian-Québecoise fusion with a 3-course sampler plate plus delicacies like pepper jelly, hot sauce and mango chutney you can take home.

Special Musical Brunches

Beats to Eat #2 at Fresh Paint Gallery

11:30 a.m.–4 p.m.

The second edition of Fresh Paint’s Beats to Eat, in collaboration with Café 180g and CHOQ FM, takes place in the gallery’s brand-new digs with special guest DJs Walla P of Voyage Funktastique and Charles Cozy, and a special menu from Melograno Cuisine Urbaine.

Yes No Toaster at Divan Orange

12–3:30 p.m.

Musical guests Sweet Grass will be serenading brunch-goers at Divan Orange’s collaboration with Indie Montreal, Barefoot Wines, RISE Kombucha and Farnham beer, with a menu featuring a variety of options including a croque-monsieur and a waldorf salad.
