Happy New Year!

With the majority of restaurants, theatres, concert halls and galleries closed today, it might be a good day to see a movie.

(Here‘s a list of restaurants that are open.)

There’s also a Winter Classic (outdoor) hockey game on at 1 p.m. today: Habs vs. Bruins. But if you don’t get NBC or Sportsnet, you’ll have to head to a bar to watch it.

If you didn’t get all your partying done last night, you can keep on dancing at StereoBar’s After 8, featuring a line-up of DJs including Steven Taylor, Adam Solomon, Dave Turk and more keeping it lit all day and night. 856 Ste-Catherine E., 8 a.m.–3 a.m., $10

Get creative in the New Year by participating in the annual Fun-A-Day project, where participants devote time during each day in January towards working on a project, a hobby or an enjoyable leisure activity. A show-and-tell event will take place in early February at Rats9 to show off the results. Anywhere, anytime, free

Join the Kalmunity Vibe Collective for the first Foundation Friday of the New Year, giving Kalmunity fans who can’t make their weekly Tuesday gigs a chance to groove out on a weekend. Tonight’s edition is hosted by Mat “Preach” Slater and features DJ Andy Couchman. Le Belmont, 4483 St-Laurent, 10 p.m., $10

Caribbean music fans will want to check out tonight’s birthday bash for Willy Chin (Black Chiney) with soca, dancehall and hip hop all night at Hardwax. 1071 Beaver Hall, 10 p.m., $20

See our Event Listings for more concert, nightlife, theatre, comedy and community event options.
