Just the best Montreal shows this week

Two very cool show series by Montreal venues are highlights of our top 11 heavy concerts this week.

facebookAlthough I finally have no festival news to announce this week, we are treated to two ongoing series that are happening tonight (Thursday) and on Monday, so if you dig stacked, eclectic nights as well as veggie shepherd’s pie and a nice glass of vino, scroll down and dig in.

Thursday: As I just finished mentioning Turbo Haus continue their Blatant Localism night with their fourth edition featuring the blistering hardcore of Boids, PGB and Sick Things. 5011 Notre-Dame W., 8 p.m., PWYC

Friday: For a night of old-school he-man NYC hardcore, you can catch Madball, White Widows Pact, Nuke, Get the Shot and Iron Golem at Foufs. 87 Ste-Catherine E., 7 p.m., $20/$23

Death metal-head, don’t miss Skeleris, Evertrapped, Seismic Breach and Humanity’s Disgrace at Katacombes. 1635 St-Laurent, 8:30 p.m., $10/$12

Suoni per il Popolo have cooked up a great double night over the weekend with a rare performance from ex-Coil and Psychic TV duder Drew McDowall with help from his fellow New Yorkers Shredded Nerve, Wasted Nymph, Blankets, la Naegleria and Sexy Pharmacist at Casa, natch. 4873 St-Laurent, 11 p.m., $6/$12/PWYC

Saturday: The Suoni peeps keep their weekend two-fer rollin’ at Casa with NYC’s L.O.T.I.O.N. with fellow New Yorkers Ligature with Un Regard Froid, Anusol and Croche. 4873 St-Laurent, 10:30 p.m., $6/$12/PWYC

The doom and gloom set will definitely want to haunt Katacombes for their Nightmare Before Christmas: A Gothic Christmas Party (?). Live performances from Toronto’s Double Eyelids and locals Let Us Out. 1635 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $7/$10

For some true-blue DIY indie spirit, check out Toronto’s Soupcans with Perverted Justice and Mono No Aware, plus DJ Baby Blue filling in the gaps with glorious tunez. This is all happening at the former Silver Door. 11 p.m., $7/$10

My big pick of the week is the gloriously strident psych/power pop/prog of Beat Cops with Wizaard and Germaphobes at Divan Orange. Analogue Addiction presents this so you know it’s the titz. 4234 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $8

Sunday: This is a no-brainer as you can catch an ultra rare performance by We R Dying 2 Kill U. This is an early one, and best of all it’s absolutely free. 6731 Esplanade, 8 p.m., free

Monday: Perfecto has been doing a regular night running under the moniker of Souper Spectacle where they cook up a crazy gourmet spread, throw a glass of wine into the deal and get local musicians to pare things down while offering up a unique show that is far from their comfort zone. This week the grub is a veggie shepherd’s pie with post-punker Derm Kean performing a piece called Presence of Other Derms. Word on the street is the Souper Spectacle nights have been amazing, so do not miss. 20 Duluth E., doors 7 p.m., show & dinner 8 p.m., $20 w/ food & wine or$5 w/out

Wednesday: Finally you can get yer hardcore buzz on with A Wilhelm Scream, Pears, Brutal Youth and Dig It Up at Foufs. 87 Ste-Catherine E., 7:30 p.m., $15
