The 44th annual Festival du nouveau cinéma — Montreal’s prestigious fall film fest, which runs through Oct. 18 — begins with a screening of Jaco Van Dormael’s The Brand New Testament (in its original French with English subtitles), an irreverent take on Christian myth wherein God is actually an alcoholic douchebag from Belgium. 3575 Parc, 1 p.m., $13/$9 for students & seniors
