In the wake of recent deaths of Syrian refugees trying to reach safety and increased pressure to improve access to Canada for refugees from abroad, Solidarity Across Borders is holding a demonstration today at Norman Bethune Square called Refugees Welcome. Corner Guy & de Maisonneuve, 2 p.m., free

Catch some soccer over at Saputo Stadium, where the Montreal Impact will face the Chicago Fire. 4750 Sherbrooke E., 8 p.m., $15$85

The Origin of Shadows, a 15-minute bilingual puppet show about the Chinese puppetry origin story, is being performed on a loop from 8:30 to 10 p.m as part of the Chinese lantern display at the Montreal Botanical Gardens. 4101 Sherbrooke E., 8:30 p.m., $15.25/$11.50 students for Quebec residents, $19.25/$14.25 students for non-residents.

Toronto band Moon King, who you may have seen on a bill with Doldrums sometime this year (the lead dude is the brother of Doldrums, ) bring their nugaze/indie pop thing (as heard on their LP Secret Life) to Casa del Popolo, with openers Dories and Vesuvio Solo. 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $10

“Two queer DJs, one night of mayhem” is how Bass Luv II is being hyped, and the combined force of DJs Cherry Cola and Diskommander’s bass, electro, techno selections could very well blow the roof off Felix — these two have probably lit every bar and club in this town on their own. 6388 St-Hubert, 10 p.m., $5/$8 [Note that your this club demands that you check your phone at the door, no exceptions.]
