Montreal rap cité

The best rap shows and dance parties this weekend, just ahead of the September festival storm.

shinePOP, OUMF, MRCY — wow, September in Montreal sounds like 50 Shades of Batman & Robin.

As mentioned last week there are festivals for days between now and the fall harvest. Today’s column will get you through the weekend and then on Monday, check back as a round up my rather considerable list of POP picks before the annual shindig gets underway next Wednesday.

Friday: Tonight from 6:30 p.m., catch Anticipateur Pic Pacquette, Wasiu, Dead Obies, Eman & VLooper and headlining hip hop legend Grandmaster Flash at day two of OUMF.

Follow that up at the SAT’s Temps Perdu Partage, where résidents Tony Deziel and B-Sider receive special guest Toast Dawg.

Or maybe you’d rather head to Blue Dog for HXRMNY, with guests Grandbuda and Noo-Bap.

Saturday: Back to OUMF for TO jazz bastards BadBadNotGood, beats from Montreal’s CRi and a DJ set by Pierre Kwenders, and more. Check set times here.

Meanwhile, though, Weekend at the Peel Basin — uh, nice name, organizers — puts on Clay & Friends, the Posterz and High Klassified, for five bucks, from 5 p.m. ’til 11 p.m.

Also, Walla P and Dr.MaD celebrate two years of Voyage Funktastique with a patio BBQ leading into a night of dancing with surprise guests and host Marley C.

So that oughtta tide you over until Monday and my POP picks. Until then, party like a rockstar, baby.
