The Festival Nuits d’Afrique kicks off their outdoor programming today with free shows beginning at 4 p.m. and happening every day through Sunday. Today, check out reggae artist Dakka, musician and acrobat Yamoussa Kora and groups Bombolessé, la Rue Ketanou and the punk and ska influenced Chico Trujillo. Loto-Québec Stage (Clark & de Maisonneuve), 4–11 p.m., free

Check out some fun free activities at the Just for Laughs zone at Place des Festivals, including a Melting Pot dance party with DJ Leticia plus an outdoor performance from the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. Place des Festivals (Ste-Catherine W. & Jeanne-Mance), 5–11 p.m., free

Drawn & Quarterly’s Graphic Novel Book Club series takes a look at Ghost World by Daniel Clowes, the graphic novel that spawned the 2001 Oscar-nominated film starring Scarlett Johansson, Thora Burch and Steve Buscemi. 211 Bernard W., 7 p.m., free
