Piknic Électronik may be called off today due to rain (keep an eye on their website, they usually make the call by noon), but let’s hope it goes off — today’s programming features some of the top DJs in (or from this) town, namely Jacques Greene, Deadbeat, Forrest, Vilify (read her Piknic praise in this week’s edition of The Shine), Payz Play and le Big Barbe Jojo Blues Band. Today is International Go Skateboarding Day, and the SAT is organizing a celebration of the under-appreciated tool of active transit and hot-doggery with a day of programming at Peace Park including a procession through the streets and ceremony to mark the recent legalization of boarding in the park, skills and tricks showcases, DJs and live music, a BBQ and an outdoor screening of 20 Years of Peace. Skateboard procession at Berri & Ontario 2 p.m. , programming at Peace Park (St-Laurent & René-Lévesque) at 3 p.m., film screening at 7 p.m.

After a brief bureaucratic snafu that caused their big neon pineapple to go dark for a few days, le Mal Nécessaire is back just in time to throw open the doors tonight for another edition of Drunken Masters, the cocktail competition series that sees your favourite bartenders from across town whip up their specialties in a fast-paced drink-slinging showdown. The Suoni per il Popolo festival wraps tomorrow, but tonight they’re presenting a rare treat: Mdou Moctar, a Tuareg musician from Niger who performs electronic adaptations of Tuareg guitar music. Opening is local synth-player/songwriter Xarah Dion. La Vitrola (4602 St-Laurent), 8 p.m., $10
