PHOTOS: Dogs of Northern Quebec

A mass sterilization clinic for stray dogs was completed last week on the First Nations reserve of Manawan. Here are some of the dogs that got treated.

A mass sterilization clinic for stray and roaming dogs was completed last week on the First Nations reserve of Manawan, about a four-hour drive north of Montreal. Many First Nations communities simply don’t have the veterinary resources to manage local animal populations, and mass sterilization is an efficient and humane method to control the dog overpopulation crisis they face.

Humane Society International/Canada assisted Chiots Nordiques, a volunteer-based organization dedicated to the humane management of stray and roaming dogs in remote Quebec communities. (See how to help here, and how to volunteer here.)
