Neanderthals, nerds, druggonauts and dropouts

Attention! Montreal stages are jammed with heaviosity tonight, but the big show this week lands on Saturday. Freak out, my furry children.

facebookTonight seems unusually packed with some serious bangin’ shows, but if you were lucky enough to grab tickets, the big show this week lands on Saturday night. Freak out, my furry children.

Thursday: All of you knuckle-dragging Neanderthals (just kiddin’, y’know I luvs ya) can check out Harm’s Way, Homewrecker, Discourse, Apes and Life Spent at la Vitrola. 4602 St-Laurent, 7 p.m., $15

Easily the biggest ticket for tonight would be l’Esco’s final blast during their birthday month, with les Breastfeeders gettin their dandy on within the stone walls of their home turf. You will definitely want to get there extra early to try and squeeze into this one. Making your early excavation from the couch worthwhile is openers No Aloha, Nancy Pants with the busiest rock and roll DJ Mathieu Beausejour sticking the needle in the groove. 4467 St-Denis, 9 p.m.

Another gig that will be packed to the tits will be blog darlings Diarrhea Planet with Left and Right and New Swears at Casa. 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $13

As fuggin’ rad as these shows are, my best bet for tonight would be to catch the psyched-out, fuzzed-up bash of Wand with Corridor and Heaters at le Ritz. Guaranteed to fuck up all of you drugonauts out there. 179 Jean-Talon W., 9:30 p.m., $13

Friday: Remember the term “cuddle core”? If you’re as long in the tooth as I am, you’ll fondly remember Halifax’s Plumtree, but for those of you who’ve only read about them, you can catch their new incarnation, Overnight. They’ve ditched the cute for stunning psych. Also stacking the bill at Poisson Noir is Special Noise and Big Knife Little Knife. Ask a hipster for the location, 10 p.m.

Saturday: If you missed Overnight on Friday you have another chance to catch them at BBAM! Gallery at the ungodly hour of 2 p.m. Best of all, this gig is totally free!!! 3255 St-Jacques W., 2 p.m., free

As far removed from cuddle core as you can possibly get are U.K. sludge-slingers Electric Wizard, who’ll be bubbling their bong at their first ever Montreal show at the Corona Theatre, with the cult/psych/stoner jams of Blood Ceremony and Satan’s Satyrs. Unfortunately, if you ain’t gripping tickets, you ain’t getting’ in as this was sold out days after tickets first appeared. You could probably chance it with scalpers though. 2490 Notre-Dame W., 8 p.m., $28 (SOLD OUT)

Tuesday: Finally, you can enjoy the slightly milder weather on l’Esco’s two balconies and freak out on a night of sonic fuckery when Litige, Nothinge, YlangYlang and Jilted X sear the frontal lobes. 4467 St-Denis, 9 p.m., $6
