There’s lots going on in the arts scene this week, with more than 10 events happening today alone. Here are a few highlights you won’t want to miss, followed by complete listings of shows that are opening, ongoing and closing.

A group of Montreal artists are doing their best Banksy impression and showing a series of hand-painted reproductions of his favourite works by the most famous anonymous artist in the world. This is on for only a few days, so be sure to check out #NotBanksy in Montreal while you can at E. K. Voland Art Gallery 4710 St-Ambroise, #100, vernissage Thursday, March 5, 5 p.m. ***Updated. Previously the reproductions were attributed to artist Quentin Mason. In fact, Mason is one of several artists whose work was featured in this show.***

Photographer Alain Dahan is showing his series of photographs Naked Silver at Galerie 203, nudes printed using UV ink on metal surfaces, giving a new dimension to highlight his compositions that reference inspirations from Renoir and Rodin. 203 Notre-Dame W., vernissage Thursday, March 5, 5 p.m.

Shows at Galerie Youn are always worth checking out, so be sure to pop in to the Mile End space to see two new shows, Boom Boom Puffy Cloud by Manuel Bujold and Materiology by Katherine Melançon. 5226 St-Laurent, vernissage Thursday, March 5, 5–8 p.m.

At Galerie de l’UQAM, Aude Moreau will be showing nighttime cityscape photographs in her show The Political Nightfall before taking the series to Paris, Toronto and Luxembourg. 1400 Berri, Pavillon Judith-Jasmin, Local J-R 120, vernissage Thursday, March 5, 5:30 p.m.

Head to Cinéma du Parc to see a new series of work by emerging artist Phil Oriani, presented by Sugar for Brains. 3575 Parc, opening Thursday, March 5, 6–9 p.m.

On Friday, dig under your couch cushions because even the cash-strapped among us will have a chance to buy some affordable art with works specially created for art-lovers on a budget, with works available for $50$100. Don’t miss out on this chance to bring home an original work by some of Montreal’s favourite artists including Emmanuel Laflamme, MC Baldassari, Futur Lasor Now, Starchild Stela, TurtleCaps and more. Iambatman and Katie Paglialunga will be live-painting during this party at Café l’Artiste Affamé. 3692 St-Denis, Friday, March 6, 7 p.m.–12 a.m.

Also Friday check out St-Henri’s BBAM! Gallery to see Jessica Gaves’ show Dangerous Delicious, a series of oil paintings inspired by the imaginative mythologies of her favourite writers. 3255 St-Jacques, Friday, March 6, 7 p.m.

Heads up to those who want to get in on YES Montreal’s annual artist conference happening on March 20 with Sobey Art Award winner Nadia Myre as keynote speaker, the deadline to register is Friday, March 6. Other conference panelists include local movers and shakers like Hotel2Tango’s Howard Bilerman, MainLine Theatre’s Amy Blackmore and Galerie Youn’s Juno Youn. You can check out the full program and register here.

On Saturday, head to Art Mûr for three shows by Jannick Deslauriers, Jonathan Hobin, and a group show called Moving Still / Still Moving that includes a must-see dynamic sculpture installation by Jonathan Schipper that involves two life-size sculptures suspended from the ceiling by a single chain. As the concrete sculptures rub against each other, they slowly erode into dust. 5826 St-Hubert, Saturday, March 7, 3–5 p.m.

Also on Saturday, a new show goes up at Galerie ABYSS, this time with the theme Celebrities. 28 local artists including Mos Geez, Mimmo Scali, Pascal Lee Cormier and Roxy Peroxyde create works centred around figures like David Bowie, Madonna and Lana Del Rey. 1520 Notre-Dame W., Saturday, March 7, 7 p.m.

A couple of shows will open at the Belgo on Saturday. Head to the fifth floor to see works by Isa B and Vincent London at Galerie Dominique Bouffard (#508), and by Raymonde April at Galerie Donald Browne (#528). 372 Ste-Catherine W., 3 p.m.

This is only a hint of what’s out there this week, so don’t forget to check the full listings below!
