Nearly 1,000 cyclists, some of them donning full snowsuits and thick goggles, braved deep-freeze conditions on Sunday morning to take part in the second annual edition of Vélo sous zéro.

The 15-kilometre bike trek, organized by Vélo Québec to promote cycling in the winter, started and finished at Parc Lafontaine, winding through the Plateau, Rosemont and Maisonneuve park. (Read more about Vélo sous zéro here.)

Mayor Denis Coderre made an appearance at yesterday’s event and Vélo Québec used the occasion to launch the official program of the Go Bike Montreal Festival (May 24–31), which encompasses the Tour de l’Île and un Tour la Nuit.
