These poutines are competing in Poutine Week

Restaurants all across Montreal have formulated their tastiest, craziest combos of fries, gravy and curds (and more) for next week’s culinary battle. Here are the details.

What could be better on a freezing cold February day than to dive into a steaming hot dish of potatoes, cheese curds and gravy? Nobody does comfort food like Quebec, and the signature poutines created here are world-famous for good reason.

Feb. 1–7 marks Poutine Week in Montreal, when you’ll be able to sample the best poutines the city has to offer, including plenty of creative new takes on the traditional winter warmer. Burgundy Lion (2496 Notre-Dame)

This Indian-inspired poutine combines Tikka Masala chicken with cucumber yogurt and coriander

 

Copper Branch (1245 Bishop)

This vegan resto is offering a healthy poutine made with baked fries, portobello and miso, with vegan cheese.

 

Monsieur Resto Bar (1102 de Bleury)

Get acquainted with Monsieur Chorizo Verde, with yukon and sweet potato fries, local wild mushrooms sautéed with kale, and chorizo in a mix of local organic cheese curds with melted mozza.

 

Pub Quartier Latin (318 Ontario E.)

Pulled pork is on the menu in the Latin Quarter with sautéed mushrooms and truffle sauce, topped with Reggiano.

 

Taverne F (1485 Jeanne-Mance)

The Portuguese gem in the Quartier-des-Spectacles offers a seaside poutine with salted cod, caramelized onions and a lemony zip.

 

Poutine Centrale (3971 Hochelaga)

With a name like “Poutine Centrale,” you know they take their poutine here seriously! On offer for Poutine Week is a special Polish pierogy inspired dish with smoked bacon, caramelized onions, mushroom and sour cream to complement the classic cheese curds and sauce.

We’ll take any excuse to indulge at Burger Royal, and their Poutine Week offering with braised oxtail topped with gremolata (a garlicky mix of parsley with lemon zest) ain’t your grandma’s gravy.

Mile End’s Russian donut café offers a vegetarian option with the Vladimir Vegetarienovich Poutine: beets, 3-bean chipotle chili and cheese curds served on one-of-a-kind donut dough fries.

Home-made Dr. Pepper chili with duck gravy and veggies tops off Dirty Dogs’ Boss Poutine.
