Come out to la Sala Rosa Restaurant for the launch party of a new podcast, Science Faction, which uses the 1,000 most commonly used words to tell stories about unbelievable discoveries. Hosted by Meaghan Johnstone and Alex Tran, with DJ Johnny Ripper. 4848 St-Laurent,6 p.m., free

Canada plays Russia in the grand finale of the World Junior Hockey Championship, and although the game is in Toronto (and probably would’ve cost a grand via scalpers if it had been at the Bell Centre), you can very likely get in on some of that action at your neighbourhood bar. In the Plateau, we recommend Aux Verres Stérilisés (800 Rachel E.) and Brasserie Laurier (266 Laurier E)., or, a little further north in Mile Ex/Petite Patrie, Bruno Sport Bar (313 Rue Beaubien E.).

On the concert front, Casa del Popolo hosts local eccentric Karneef with fellow Montreal acts Raveen and People Pretend. 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $5

The Dollar Cinema is pretty hot right now, with The Interview playing there and all, but have you seen Xavier Dolan’s Oscar-contender Mommy yet? It’s playing there, too. 6900 Decarie, 9:20 p.m., $2.50
