10 heavy shows for black hearts

Fuck Christmas, Yuletide Deathfest and more rawk, punk and metal to get merry to.

facebook (379x464)If that mug o’ eggnog is cloggin’ yer noggin and yuletide carols has you climbing the walls, there’s still plenty to do around town help you bring on some Christmas cheer.

Tonight: The ninth annual Fuck Christmas pageant happens tonight and is once again hosted by Montreal’s favourite Grinch, Uncle Costa. Costa’s band of ne’er do wells, Vulgar Deli, will once again be headlining at Underworld with Tail Gunner, Dive Bomber and Blame Mary getting in on the greatest time of the year. 1403 Ste-Elisabeth, 9 p.m., free

Fuck Christmas is guaranteed to storm a barn, but Solids and much-buzzed-about band Heat should pack them in when they play at Breakglass Studios. If you can’t make it down, you can listen to the live audio feed here. 7250 Clark, 8:30 p.m., $8

Helping make tonight a packed affair is everyone’s favourite live karaoke band uRockaoke, who’ll jam on some dusty chestnuts as you caterwaul over top. This is happening at jack-shack Mecca Cinema l’Amour and presented by the fine folks at POP Montreal. This gig in the house of spunk will definitely get weird. 4015 St-Laurent, 10:30 p.m., $10/$12

Friday: My big pick of the week is definitely my favorite drone band, Berlin via Toronto duo Nadja with the ample support of thisquietarmy and Black Walls at Casa. I’m really excited for this one and if you dig Nadja as much as I you know to bring plenty of sawbucks to pluck the rare vinyl taking up space on their merch table. 4873 St-Laurent, 8:30 p.m., $10

It seems a lot of Montreal bands of yore are re-plugging in, the latest being Fuad and the Feztones who dust off their fezes at Quai des Brumes. Opening for these nearly-lost legends is Loose Pistons and Ghost Vines. 4481 St-Denis, 9 p.m., $8

Wacky Mile Ex restaurant Bethlehem XXX gets in on the holidaze with a gig featuring the warped disco of Bernardino Femminielli, Palada and Tough Love. 6568 St-Laurent, 11 p.m.

Saturday: Probably the biggest metal gig of the week would be Opeth, In Flames and Red Fang at Metropolis. Better make sure there are still tickets to this one before you leave your parent’s basement. 59 Ste-Catherine E., 7:30 p.m., $40/$44

For all of the doom and gloom heads out there, and all of you who showed up to Nadja on Friday, you can feel the darkness when Kult Kontrol fuck up some craniums at Casa. Opening is Carcajou, Animal Ethics and Barricade. 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $10

The fuzzy mugs behind the  Pouzza fest keep things rolling, presenting Rusty Feather, Cirrhse, Etcendrier and Blender Blues at TRH Bar. 3699 St-Laurent, 10 p.m.

Sunday: Those who made it down to Opeth on Saturday will want to keep your metal weekend rolling with the Yuletide Deathfest at TRH Bar with Virolys, Crosstitution, Hybreed Chaos, the Wild Hunt, Join the Conspiracy, Devora and Meuh. 3699 St-Laurent, 7 p.m., $10/$12
