You can still catch the intense, buzz-gathering jazz-drumming drama Whiplash, starring Miles Teller and JK Simmons. Simmons is being touted as a serious awards contender for his role as a hardass jazz conductor, so check it out for yourselves before it leaves theatres. Cinéma du Parc (3575 Parc), 6 p.m., $12

Montreal-based Malaysian chef Nantha Kumar has wrapped his extended Sunday-night residency at Nouveau Palais, but he’s now cooking up Thai at One Night in Bangkok, a weekly event at downtown pan-Asian spot Kyozon. 1458 Crescent, 7 p.m.

The Howl! arts collective presents a show featuring musicians Amir Amiri, Sarah Mangle, Jason Blackbird Selman, Norman Nawrocki, Marco Simonsen-Sereda and Stefan Christoff, produced in conjunction with Anarchopanda. Casa del Popolo (4873 St-Laurent), 8:30 p.m., $5/$10
