Fashion POP 2013

POP Montreal begins today! Among the opening festivities are a re-vernissage for Tracé/Mapped: Trajectories of musicians in Montréal, wherein local musicians were given a GPS and digital camera for a day, and the vernissage for In This World, We…, featuring installations by five artists. Quartiers POP (3450 St-Urbain), 6 p.m., free

A non-POP literary event happens at Drawn & Quarterly with the launch of cartoonist John Porcellino’s autobiographical work The Hospital Suite. A film about Porcellino, Root Hog or Die, will be screened at the event. 211 Bernard W., 7 p.m., free

Fashion POP, the annual showcase of local fashion designers brought to you by POP Montreal, goes down tonight at the Rialto Theatre, featuring collections from six up and coming designers. Hosted by Irina Lazareanu and Beaver Sheppard with beats by DJ Babi Audi. 5723 Parc, 8 p.m., free

APigeon launches her new music video, premiered here at Cult MTL, with a POP show alongside Passwords and Dam Ships. O Patro Vys (356 Mont-Royal E.), 9 p.m., $10/$12

One of the POP shows happening tonight is almost as remarkable for its location as its programming: Witching Hour Events presents Filthy Haanz, Nanimal, Primitive Hands, Chang E Ling and DJ 62 French Girls Can’t Be Wrong are playing swingers’ club l’Orage. 7387 St-Hubert, 9 p.m., $15/$5 with POP braceclet/pass

The Lisbon Lux Records showcase at la Vitrola presents a music-video launch by Das Mortal, with Automelodi, Mr. Nokturn and Sun Pow. 4602 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $8/$10
