10 hip hop events in Montreal this week

From two opportunities to see Bootcamp Clik’s Smif-N-Wessun tonight to weekend parties in NDG and CDN to the impending return of Tech N9ne (AND POP Montreal), The Shine’s To-Do List is stacked.

Our regular weekly Shine picks up off-POP and into the week ahead in the interest of keeping things nice and manageable. Lots of cool local hip hop shows and initiatives in the mix this week, plus some international heavyweights.

Montreal, Canada — consider yourselves warned!

Thursday: Bootcamp Clik’s Smif-N-Wessun get locked and loaded over at Cabaret Underworld with special guest Young Dirty Bastard (yes, that would be ODB’s son) and openers Monk.E, Kra Zy K, DJ Redd Dredd, Ottawa’s City Fidelia and more. 1403 Ste-Elisabeth, 10 p.m., $20

You don’t have to settle for just watching and listening to Tek and Steele. You can meet and greet them at Hip Hop Café earlier in the evening. 4801 Parc, 7:30-8:30 p.m.

At Pirahna Bar, meanwhile, a 14-act roster of local rap talent brings us Iron Mic, featuring Jay Daville, P.Flow Matics, Truth Vybez, Rawssi, Woodman and much more. 680 Ste-Catherine W., 9:30 p.m., $10 minimum (donations over $10 go to ALS Foundation)

And for the singalong set, HHK is back at le Belmont. 4483 St-Laurent, 10 p.m., $5 before 11 p.m./$10

Friday: Hip Hop You Don’t Stop takes place over two days in the west end, starting Friday with Girlz ‘n’ Hip Hop at Côte-des-Neiges’s Maison de la Culture. Film, spoken word, dance, rap from the world of ladies in hip hop will perhaps challenge the idea of a “gentler sex.” Malika Tirolien and IAmBlackGirl are among special guests, and Strange Froots launch an EP. 5290 Côte-des-Neiges, 5-9 .m.

The next day, Elementality take over on some of the action, bringing the festivities down to NDG Park for a taco party/BBQ with live music, painting, a barber competition and a good-ass time with Eman & VLooper, Alaiz crew, Soke and more. Both events are free to attend. Girouard & Sherbrooke, 12-8 p.m.

Back to Friday, and again into Saturday, DJ Lexis brings his 24 Hours of Vinyl series to San Fran, so tune into the live stream from 7 p.m. if you are kickin’ it at home over the course of day, night and day.

Wednesday: Under Pressure’s monthly Beaux Degats art battle is back at Foufs. Always a good time. 87 Ste-Catherine E., 7 p.m., $5

And later, at Cabaret Underworld, Aussie cult rappers Hilltop Hoods treat us with a visit, accompanied by Doomtree’s Sims and local support hailing from down under, Cee. 1403 Ste-Elisabeth, 8 p.m., $20

EXTRA HEADS-UP: Kansas City chopper Tech N9ne can’t leave Montreal alone. He returns next Thursday, Sept. 25,  with partner in rhyme Krizz Kaliko and openers Animal Nation and Immaculate, for a hot one at Petit Olympia. 1268 Amherst, 7 p.m., $35/$40
