Comiccon! The three-day comics and sci-fi fanboy and fangirl fest begins this afternoon, featuring the crew from Star Trek: The Next Generation (check out our interview with Marina Sirtis here), a pair of Walking Dead cast members, Robert Englund (Freddy), zombie auteur (as in director) George A. Romero, the Back to the Future Delorean, the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 and much, much more. Palais des Conrgès (1001 Place Jean-Paul Riopelle), 2:30–8:30 p.m., $30 for today only, check here for VIP and three-day ticket details

Here’s a great reason to go to Laval: the MRCY Block Party (mercifully near Montmorency metro), feat. Metric, Neutral Milk Hotel, Death From Above 1979, Sky Ferreira, the Barr Brothers, Thus Owls and Caravane. 475 de l’Avenir, 3 p.m., $46

Concordia students, consider yourselves lucky: A Tribe Called Red is headlining a Con-U welcome back/orientation show, joined by two of Montreal’s best indie-something bands, Suuns and Miracle Fortress, at the Corona Theatre. Brooklyn rapper Talib Kweli has two Montreal gigs tonight: a talk at Phi Centre (407 St-Pierre), moderated by Cult MTL’s own Darcy MacDonald, and a show at Telus Theatre (1280 St-Denis). And if you can’t make it down to the talk, you can watch a live webcast right here at cultmontreal.com, at 8:30 p.m. Read more about the timeliness of the talk right hereDoors open for the talk at 8 p.m. ($12.75 all in), show 10 p.m., $15

The eighth anniversary celebration for recurring kinky theme party Cirque de Boudoir is called Temple of Kink, and yes there is a mandatory dress code (all black or all white, with a mask). It’s also a good excuse to get down to the Village, check out Apollon and a tight line-up of local DJs: Plastik Patrik, Mary Hell, JNNBNNRCK and Davidé. Apollon (1450 Ste-Catherine E.), 9 p.m., $40 advance/$50

It’s the first of three nights of the Montreal Psych Fest, and tonight’s line-up features some great bands to discover: the Backhomes, Pachyderm, Constellation Nightclub and the Knows. La Vitrola (4602 St-Laurent), 10 p.m., $15
