Down in Old Montreal, see a vernissage of new work by Roxy Peroxyde, who captures women’s strength and vulnerability in her glamorous, hyperreal portraiture. Galerie 203 (203 Notre-Dame W.), 5–9 p.m., free

Fantasia officially launches with a screening of its opening film, Riad Sattouf’s satirical Jacky au royaume des filles. Hall Theatre (1455 de Maisonneuve W.) 6:30 p.m., $10/$11

Cinema Out of the Box offers a free outdoor screening with a twist: the projector runs off a bike-powered generator. This week’s film is Frank Perry and Sydney Pollack’s The Swimmer (1968). Parc Lafontaine (near Sherbrooke & Avenue du Parc Lafontaine), 8:30 p.m., free

L.A. rappers the Pharcyde and Detroit’s Slum Village pay tribute to legendary producer J Dilla, with DJs Redd Dredd, Spoon-Bee, Taigenz, Armel and Cee filling out a full night of music at Cabaret Underworld. 1403 Ste-Elisabeth, 9 p.m., $20
