The Fringe is on! Yes, the festival of alt, underground theatre, dance and comedy begins with My Playwright Sister, a response/sequel to Johanna Nutter’s My Pregnant Brother, co-written by Nutter and her bro James Diamond. Heavy psych rockers USA Out of Vietnam launch their debut album, Crashing Diseases and Incurable Airplanes, with openers Marie Davidson and Public Animal. Read our interview with Cult MTL’s own Johnson Cummins (USA’s guitarist)  here. La Sala Rossa (4848 St-Laurent), 9 p.m., $10

Local folk-rock band Sunfields launch their new album, Habitat, with openers Brad Barr and Pang Attack. Casa del Popolo (4873 St-Laurent), 9 p.m., $8

Two stars of the gay clubbing scene, DJs Frigid and JNNBNNRCK, launch a new joint monthly at Royal Phoenix: Rebel Rebel. 5788 St-Laurent, 10 p.m.  

It’s the first St-Laurent street sale of the season (the mini, Grand Prix-related edition, from Sherbrooke to des Pins), and a bunch of neighbourhood bars are bringing the fete over the weekend. Tonight, RYAN Playground and WYLN DJ at Apt. 200. 3643 St-Laurent #200, 10 p.m.
