Best of Suoni per il Popolo’s last weekend

The mind-blowing 14th edition of the Casa fam’s music festival wraps + more great shows in the week to come.

facebookThe 14th edition of the Suoni per il Popolo festival finally winds down this weekend, and this could very well have been the most impressive program yet. Low and Swans within two days of each other? These are probably the two best shows that these peepers will witness this year. Just simply divine. I love you Suoni!

Here are some gigs both on and off Suoni.

Friday: Psych sisters Xarah Dion and Marie Davidson’s project les Momies de Palerme tickle yer frontal lobes with Symbol and Silent Land Time Machine at la Vitrola.

Also, tuck in to the projections from Eyelight Obscura and DJ ALIEN 2. 4602 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $10

Leamers are about to put everything on ice, but will go out (for awhile — it’s just a hiatus) with a bang at l’Esco, where they’ll launch their new seven-inch single. Helping them out before playing possum is Tropical Dripps, Tang Soleil and DJ Tinsoldierman. 4467 St-Denis, 9 p.m., $7

Saturday: La Vitrola is the place to be for teeth-gnashing intensity and dense drones with NYC’s Dawn of Humans, thisquietarmy, Gashrat, Amphibious Pariah and Pelvic Floor. 4602 St-Laurent, 7 p.m., $10

Montreal favourites Jerusalem in My Heart will crush with love with help from Morphine’s Charles Cohen live and the analogue techno of Morphosis, all at Usine C. 1450 Lalonde, 8 p.m., $12/$15

Sunday: If you missed Vancouver’s metal messiahs Bison crush Il Motore last Monday, you’ve got another chance to catch them at the not so secret show at Turbo Haus with my ska band USA Out of Vietnam, Vile Intent and Xothogua. 1180 St-Antoine, #408, 9 p.m., $10

Super-duper Montreal twist-off band les Separatwists, feat. former members of the Kingpins, the Macchabés and the Cryptics, play with the Hick-Ups (feat. local lord of rockabilly Bloodshot Bill) at l’Esco. 4467 St-Denis, 10 p.m.

Montreal avant garde-scene institution Sam Shalabi returns to town from Cairo for the summer, and he will no doubt be making his presence known over the warmer months. This afternoon, you can catch him in a duo with Chris “Chrispy” Burns and their skronk racket the Crib Death of the Uncool at the Plant with Di! Di! and Th3Rd Eye Candy. Secret location, 3:30 p.m., PWYC

Monday: For a night of raunch, see the Let Outs, She’s and the Suppresors at God’s favourite watering hole, Brasserie Beaubien. 73 Beaubien E., 9 p.m.

Current obsession: Swans, Cop
