For six summers now, Poirier and Ghostbeard have been holding down a monthly sizzler called Sud-West, at Terrasse St-Ambroise (right on the Lachine Canal), on the last Tuesday of the month. Tomorrow, May 27, it’s on for 2014. [UPDATE: Rained out, postponed till Wednesday, May 28.]

Setting sun, beats, BBQ and beer? Hell yeah.

To get everyone ready for a new season of Sud-West, the eminent selectors have bestowed some words and five tracks apiece upon us. Check it!

Poirier

Mungo’s Hi Fi feat. YT, “Serious Time”

This is serious for real. Mungo’s Hi Fi always been a favourite for us. Will run it at every Sud-West this summer. I’m also playing their night in Glasgow in August.

Boule Noire, “La loi de Jah”

Boule Noire doing reggae? Hell fucking yeah. Crate digger material released in 1982.

Lutan Fyah, “Bossman” (The Downtown Riddim)

Produced by local team Riddim Wise, the Downtown Riddim did and still do big waves. Check also the versions by Face-T, Marky Lyrical and Mikey Dangerous.

Chronixx, “Here Comes Trouble” (Rootsman Riddim)

Rewind material here. Chronixx is one of the new faces of nu-roots and he bring quality and deepness.

Shy FX feat. Liam Bailey, “Soon Come”

Yes, that’s the Shy FX who produced “Original Nuttah” 20 years ago (do you feel old now?). I can listen to “Soon Come” 10 times in a row and I’m not even tired of it.

Ghostbeard

Delroy Wilson, “I Don’t Know Why”

The Buju Banton version of this is already a Sud-West classic. I’m going to re-introduce some history.

Lord Tanamo, “Keep On Moving”

I recently started working with Studio One in my day job. With the entire archive at my disposal, there’s now deep jams like this to play.

Elephant Man, “Stamina Daddy”

The Elephant Man crap to quality ratio can be high, but when he delivers, he comes in hard.

Ward 21 feat. Sean Paul, “Ben U Back”

Perfect combo of one of the best commercial dancehall artists and one of the best underground acts.

Deewunn feat. Marcy Chin, “Make It Bunx Up”

When summer tunes come out in December, only thing to do is wait for summer.
