Le NoShow

The multidisciplinary Festival TransAmériques runs till June 7.

See our highlights of the FTA’s dance programming and free events here, and our feature interview with choreographer Trajal Harrell (about his Greek myth/voguing drag queens show Antigone Sr.) here.

Here are our recommendations culled from the FTA’s extensive bilingual theatre programming:

L’histoire révélée du Canada francais, 1608–1998
L’histoire révélée du Canada francais, 1608–1998

L’histoire révélée du Canada francais, 1608–1998 is an epic retelling of the history of French Canada via three aspects of life in Quebec: warmth, travel by water and food. This seven- hour trilogy is being presented for the first time with the final foodie portion. Espace Libre (1945 Fullum), May 23–June 1, 2 p.m., $75/$55 students & seniors

Hate Radio recreates the broadcast that helped fuelled the Rwandan genocide 20 years ago. In between music and sports coverage, simple, demonizing words spurred the murder of thousands. Théâtre Prospero (1371 Ontario E.), May 29–31 (in French and Kinyarwanda with English and French surtitles), $43/$38 students & seniors

Beirut artist Rabih Mroué explores the images generated by the Syrians protesting against Bashar al-Assad’s repressive regime in 2011. The Pixelated Revolution is a “lecture-performance” that promises a riveting view into a world where protesters broadcast chaos, and sometimes their own deaths, to the world. McCord Museum (690 Sherbrooke W.), June 57, $28/$23 students & seniors

How much should you pay to see Le NoShow? That’s the first of many decisions the audience will have to make in this boisterous, interactive show that questions the financial viability of theatre, and the role the public plays in art in Quebec. Place des Arts (175 Ste-Catherine W., Cinquième Salle), June 35 (in French)
