Pussy Riot making friends in Sochi

Pussy Riot, “Putin Will Teach You How to Love”

Yup, this is the video that the Russian protest punk band was making in Sochi this week when they were very publicly arrested for no reason, released and subsequently whipped in the street by a Cossack. (For more about Pussy Riot, check this out.) See their latest anti-Putin, anti-Olympics antics here:

Cut Copy, “We Are Explorers”

Little green men are the stars of this new video from Australian electronic trio Cut Copy, who’ll be coming to Montreal to play the Corona Theatre on March 24, in support of their latest album, Free Your Mind. Directors Masa Kawamura, Qanta Shimizu and Aramique used 3D printed figurines that can be downloaded and printed (here) by anyone who wants to play with the narrative. Watch the original here:

Simian Ghost, “Echoes of Songs (For Trish Keenan)”

In tribute to the singer from British art-pop trio Broadcast, who died of H1N1 two years ago, Swedish band Simian Ghost wrote a tune that bridges their own sound with that of Broadcast. This track will appear on the Swedes’ next album, The Veil. Check out the video, directed by Victor Claeson.

Xiu Xiu, “El Naco”

Xiu Xiu hits their horrific/hilarious sweet spot in this new, super NSFW video. Their tour has been postponed due to some throat problems Jamie Stewart is having, but hopefully we’ll see them play tracks from their latest record, Angel Guts: Red Classroom, before long.

Phantogram, “Fall in Love”

If you’re not familiar with this NYC duo’s maxed out genre mash-up, check out this new video (directed by Timothy Saccenti), for a track off their latest LP, Voices. Phantogram plays Laval (Salle André-Mathieu, 475 l’Avenir) next Friday, Feb. 28, 9 p.m., $23.50.
