The live rawk you need to see this week

Starting at the Rialto tonight, there are some serious heavy shows going down in this city. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

facebookNo time for small talk, let’s jump right into the shows, kids!

Thursday: Without a doubt the big gig of the week is Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra with Big Brave at Rialto. Make sure you aren’t shy by the merch table either and pick up a copy of their new ‘un Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light on Everything. It very well could be their boldest and most raucous statement yet. 5723 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $15/$18

Buckfest gets into its 13th swinging edition with the Suppressors, Leamers and Il Dance Avec les Genoux at Montreal’s favourite rock ’n’ roll haunt, l’Escogriffe. 4467 St-Denis, p.m.

Saturday: All of the doom and gloom and clad in black are going to want to head nod along to the epic heaviness of Morne at Katacombes with Oppression, Memories of an Old Man and Perchten. 1635 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $8

Wednesday: The Black Angels, Roky Erickson “& the Hounds of Baskerville” (!) and Golden Animals at Théâtre Corona. Nothing against the Black Angels, but the reason this gets my pick of the month is because of the middle slot held down by the one and only legend and ex-13 Floor Elevator-operator Roky Erickson. I won’t gush too much though as his Pop Montreal appearance a couple of years back was devastatingly bad, largely due to his bluesy bar band backing him. Hopefully this time around he’ll have found some heavy heads that are fit to stand in his shadow. 2490 Notre-Dame W., 9 p.m., $22/$25
