Jessy Lanza

Don’t miss the first-ever Fashion Night Out, where you can drink with the chic and scoop up samples from local design brands, plus jams from High Klassified, Dirty Gold and more. Bar Mme Lee (151 Ontario E.), 5 p.m., free

The Bouge d’Ici dance fest debuts Common Space, a collaborative showcase of short pieces in all styles. Mainline Theatre (3997 St-Laurent), 8 p.m., $10–$15

The Cinémathèque québécoise screens one of the most successful docs in Canadian history, the 1992 film Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media, which explores the propaganda inherent in mass media, and particularly in news reporting. 335 de Maisonneuve E., 8:30 p.m., $9

Take in the rich electro-R&B soundscapes and siren vocals of the Hammer’s Jessy Lanza, whose 2013 debut LP, Pull My Hair Back, made many a best-of list. Read our interview with her here. Divan Orange (4234 St-Laurent), 9 p.m., $12

Up at la Sala Rossa, the big band led by Montreal improv-music master Sam Shalabi — Land of Kush — launch their third LP, The Big Mango. Shalabi also opens, in a trio with Pierre Guy Blanchard and Jérémi Roy, while Jean-Sébastien Truchy kicks off the night with a solo set. (And if you can’t make it, this same line-up returns to Sala tomorrow night.) 4848 St-Laurent, 9 p.m.
