These MTLers are nominated for Oscars

The nominees for the 86th Academy Awards were announced this morning and they feature some local talent.

The Oscar nominees were announced this morning and there are a couple of local contenders. Jean-Marc Vallée’s (C.R.A.Z.Y.Dallas Buyers Club raked in six nominations including Best Picture, Lead Actor, Supporting Actor, Editing, Make-up and Writing (Original Screenplay). Also of note is Will Butler (Arcade Fire) and Owen Pallett’s nomination for original music in Spike Jonze’s Her. The film’s soundtrack also includes two instrumental versions of songs from Arcade Fire’s Reflektor, namely “Porno” and “Supersymmetry.” The latter was written specifically for the film. And Malcolm Clarke for the Holocaust documentary short The Lady in Number 6: Music Saved My Life.

Also of note if you dig award season, the Canadian Screen Awards were handed out earlier this week. You can check out the complete list of nominees and winnners here.
