Montreal has a psych fest

The four-day festival occupies the city’s best dives Thursday through Sunday. PLUS: A few more unmissable gigs this week.

facebookThe second annual Montreal Psych Fest runs this Thursday through Sunday, bringing heavy, wierd [sic] and mind-bending sounds to Barfly, l’Esco, Sound Central and an afterparty venue you’ll have to investigate the Internet to find. Bands include Syngja, Kurvi Tasch, A Devil’s Din, the Hazelles and Femme Accident. Find the full program here.

Here’s some more gigs to get you there:

Monday: The Spits—one of the best punk bands currently stomping the pines—play with Useless Eaters, Genital Hospital and sloppy punx Dead Future, also at Il Motore.  179 Jean-Talon W., 8 p.m., $13/$15

Tuesday: The Hawkwind show is postponed, but here’s some consolation: Check out the automatic heft of Solids, who launch their  new ’un with openers Mom Jeans. Read our interview with them here. La Sala Rossa (4848 St-Laurent), 9 p.m., $10

Thursday: My number-one pick of the month, let alone the week, is Italian horror movie soundtrackers Goblin, bringing their dark prog to le National with Secret Chiefs 3. Don’t miss this gig of a lifetime. 1220 Ste-Catherine E., 8 p.m., $27–$65

Current obsession: Rhys Chatham, A Crimson Grail
