The best rap week of all time

Hip Hop Karaoke, MEG, Holla-Palooza, King of the Dot, the Goods and Sud-West — your hip hop to-do list.

I open the debate: the Shine is the best rap column of all time…meaning OF ALL TIME IN THE HISTORY OF HIP HOP JOURNALISM, PERIOD.

Here’s where to hide your face this week.

Thursday: Here’s something else to make you laugh: Hip Hop Karaoke gets all JFL on our asses tonight at le Belmont, featuring HHK’s all-time greatest repeat offenders, the HHK team, Midas on the ones and twos and DShade sharing his hosting duties for the evening with American comedy it-guy Hannibal Buress — read our interview with him here. And who knows, maybe a celeb or two will drop by to grab the mic. Don’t sleep.

At la Sala Rossa, meanwhile, Alaclair Ensemble, Dead Obies and Cargo Culte go in from 9:30 p.m., as part of the MEG fest. (For more MEG highlights, check this out).

Friday: Gotta love the name Holla-Palooza for a rap showcase, and one featuring MTL and TO hip hop talent, to boot. Loe Pesci, CeasRock, iLLvibe, Green Hypnotic, Cee, Notion, Dr. MaD, M.O. and Mac Vybz shake the foundations at CFC from 9 p.m. for an event promising itself to be the “First Annual.” Like the sound of that.

At Divan Orange, MEG puts it on with Artbeat Montreal and guests Trust the Team, BUeLLER, Quills and Bongiovanni, from 10 p.m.

Saturday: Scott C and Andy Williams welcome Bastard Jazz label co-founder DJ DRM all the way from Brooklyn to kick it at the Goods, 10:30 p.m. at la Sala Rossa.

Monday: The King of the Dot Champions tour lands in Montreal with all your favourite battle cats from across the country and Pesh, CL and Ottawa’s Bender in the mix as guests of honour (or at least that’s what I’m calling them). Locals Scynikal, Spook One and Clarity also take on some chumps.

Tuesday: Why, it’s the last Tuesday of the month. That means reggae and beer by the canal it St-Henri. Poirier, Ghostbeard and the St-Ambroise Terrasse get Sud-West from 7 p.m. all the way up to 11 p.m. ■
