The Fantasia film fest will keep fans busy today:

The Cinémathèque québécoise starts early screening short films by Quebec filmmakers: Eaux Troubles at 11 a.m., Dégage! at 1 p.m. and De toutes pièces at 3 p.m. 335 de Maisonneuve, all events $9–$10

Far East Fragments a selection of short films from Japan and Korea plays at the Imperial Theatre. 1432 Bleury, 2:40 p.m., $9–$10

And the fest presents Simon Boswell: A Talk on Film Scoring, where Fangoria magazine editor Chris Alexander will sit down with the British musician to talk about his career and adventures in film scoring. York Amphitheatre (1515 Ste-Catherine W.), 4 p.m., free

YUL Block Party is a huge outdoor party with live art by Jasper Wong (read our interview here), beats by High Klassified and street food from the Winneburger and Mr. Crémeux food trucks. Corner of René-Lévesque and Lucien-L’Allier, 2–6 p.m., free

Chicago’s the Smith Westerns, whose new record synthesizes the best of pre-punk ’70s music, returns to Montreal, this time supported by Portland electro-pop weirdos Wampire. Il Motore (179 Jean-Talon W.), 9 p.m., $15/$20
