The St-Henri/Southwest borough’s monthly summer dance party and canal-side hang — Sud-West — has its first edition of the season tomorrow. To get you in the mood, we asked the selectors, DJs Poirier and Ghostbeard, for their Top 3 Sud-West tracks.

Poirier

Stylo G, “Press Up” (Poirier Dengue Riddim Remix)

Brand new. Released this weekend on the Booty Based Mob Volume 2 compilation. Stylo G is one the best U.K. vocalists at the moment.

Boogat, “Esa Mujer”

This one is a classic at Sud-West. I have no choice but to play it at every edition, usually just after Ghostbeard plays Macka B, “Roots Ragga.”

Face-T feat. Mikey Dangerous, “We Rule the Area”

First time that two of the best Montreal reggae/dancehall vocalists appear on the same track. Instant classic.

Ghostbeard

The Jamaicans, “Ba Ba Boom”

Rediscovered this classic recently, as I had to clear the sample for one of our Ninja artists. Big original.

Part2Style feat. Daddy Freddy, “Original Baba Loo”

Ever since going to Tokyo last year, I’ve been obsessed with Japanese reggae/dancehall productions. Featuring my homie Daddy Freddy.

Macka B, “Roots Ragga”

Anyone who’s been to Sud-West knows that I usually get drunk and usually end with this classic.

Sud-West with DJs Poirier & Ghostbeard happens at the Terrasse St-Ambroise (5080 St-Ambroise, Lachine Canal side) on Tuesday, May 28, 7–11 p.m., free. BBQ and beer for sale on site.
