Call Me Kuchu at Massimadi fest

Afro-Caribbean LGBT film festival Massimadi continues with Call Me Kuchu, an award-winning doc about the struggles of the LGBT community in Uganda. Check our our interview with the filmmakers. Cinéma du Parc (3575 Parc), 6 p.m., $10

The Montreal Media Co-op ushers in the March/April issue of The Dominion (dedicated to the Idle No More movement), welcomes exhibits by artists Seb Evans and Robin Dianoux, screens short film and hosts a talk by native journalist Dan David. Café Artère (7000 Parc), 6:30–10:30 p.m., free

Toronto-based interdisciplinary artist Zeesy Powers presents Subjects, an ongoing video project about how people present and represent themselves. The artist will also give a talk about her work. Eastern Bloc (7240 Clark), 7–10 p.m., free

Found in Translation brings award-winning authors Nicole Brossard and Jocelyne Saucier to launch the English translations of their latest books, White Piano and And the Birds Rained Down, respectively. Both authors will give bilingual readings, and the event will be hosted by Saucier’s translator, Rhonda Mullins, to better discuss what happens to texts in other languages. Nomadic synth-pop outfit the Ruby Suns come to town to headline at Casa with support from Toronto trio Pick a Piper. 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $10/$13

Krief and his band play acoustic and give the hometown crowd dibs on vinyl copies of their record Hundred Thousand Pieces before heading out on the road. Derek Harrison is the sweat act. L’Escogriffe (4467 St-Denis), 9 p.m.

Le Belmont’s top weekly, Bass Drive, celebrates four years of low-end rhythm and searing synthetic sound, with the U.K.’s Koan Sound joining resident DJ Vilify and regular guests Henward and Maysr. Check back this AM for an interview with Vilify. 4483 St-Laurent, 10 p.m., $15
