The Blood Ballet Cabaret presents Illuminatease

If your New Year’s resolution is to adopt a fluffy new friend, you’re in luck. Today is Cat Adoption Day at le Refuge Pour Cats de Verdun (Marcel-Giroux Centre, 4501 Bannantyne, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.) and Pitou Minou & Compagnons (5326 Queen Mary Road, 12-4 p.m.)

You have no choice. You must see at least one film at Cinéma du Parc today. Not only is it the last showing of P.T. Anderson’s The Master (4:30 p.m.) but it’s the final day to catch the Cannes Lions collection of international award-winning ads (2:45 p.m.) There are also four of the more modern Ghibli films playing through the day, for your otaku moviegoing pleasure (Spirited Away, 3 p.m., Ponyo, 5:15 p.m., The Secret World of Arrietty, 7:15 p.m., Howl’s Moving Castle, 9:15 p.m.) 3575 Parc, $11.50/screening

Catch a free preview of the Snow Village! The ice hotel is still under construction but you can feel free to visit the ice bar, ice restaurant and heated dome now, in anticipation of the grand opening on Jan. 18. Parc Jean Drapeau, 130 chemin Tour-de-l’Isle, 5 p.m., free

You like burlesque? How about the circus, minus the scary clowns? If so, you’re in luck — the Blood Ballet Cabaret presents Illuminatease tonight, featuring tata-shaking acts from Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. Le Belmont (4483 St-Laurent), 8 p.m., $10. Tickets at door or RSVP by emailing bloodballet@gmail.com

DJ László (aka Xavier l’Indolent)’s Monday monthly, La Décadence Electronique, feat. “minimal synth and a mixed bag of wavey electronics,” has a Sunday night one-off. A great way to start the week. Casa del Popolo (4873 St-Laurent), 9:30 p.m., free
