DJ Vekked, performing tonight at Cabaret Underworld

Prepare to be disoriented at the vernissage for Philippe Blanchard’s latest installation, New Troglodytes. The exhibit compares “expanded animation” with trippy stalactite constructions decked out in brightly printed paper, and also harkens back to our caveman ancestors gathered around the fire. Arprim (Belgo Building, 372 Ste-Catherine W., #426), 5:30 p.m., free

Get in on the MTL edition (one of 320) of the fifth annual Global Game Jam, a marathon game-designing session that unites experienced game developers and novices alike. A theme is provided, a whistle is blown and participants have 48 hours to brainstorm, form teams and create something great from scratch. You can bring a sleeping bag, but real warriors go sleepless. École de Technologie Supérieure (1100 Notre-Dame W.), 6:30 p.m.

This week, Living in 10 Easy Lessons heads to Articule. Linda Duvall and Peter Kingstone’s video installation offers insight on the day-to-day lives of sex workers, with each film promising a practical tip on their trade (like how to apply fake eyelashes). Articule (262 Fairmount W.), 7 p.m.

Readings, bands and booze are what’s up at This Is Happening Whether You Like It or Not. Hope in Flirt City is the theme of this fourth edition, with readers including Maisonneuve editor Drew Nelles, TO writer Spencer Gordon and poet Zoe Sharpe, plus performances by Mathematique and Garbage Man. The Dove (ask the Internet for an address), 9 p.m., PWYC ($5 suggested), BYOB

Down at Cabaret Underworld, it’s a party with DMC champ DJ Vekked and MTLer DJ Brace, plus a beat showcase by Artbeat Builders (Yerly, Johnny Illdigger, Toast Dawg). 1403 Ste-Élisabeth, 10:30 p.m., $10/$15 with record
