A Tribe Called Red, playing MEG’s Electo-choc

It’s the first day of Otakuthon! Indulge in anime, manga and assorted swag, attend a J-pop talk or simply gawk at the cosplay costumes in and around Chinatown. All day at the Palais des Congrès (1001 Place Jean-Paul Riopelle)

It’s also the first day of Osheaga, but unless you’ve planned ahead, you’re out of luck — Friday’s sold out. If you’re on the fence about the rest of the weekend, decide quick. Aug. 3–5, Parc Jean Drapeau, 1–11 p.m.

Catch gay pride fest Divers/Cité’s Apocalipstik, featuring such artists as Arcade Fire violinist Sarah Neufeld and Foxtrott. Quai Jacques-Cartier (Old Port), 6 p.m., $5 suggested donation

Shark! No, it’s just the vernissage for Sean Havas’s awesomely heart-stopping shark photography exhibit. Galerie Espace (4844 St-Laurent), 6–10 p.m.

Just so you know, Marina Abramovic: The Artist Is Present, the documentary on the performance-art icon, is reopening by popular demand. Cinéma du Parc (3575 Parc), $9/$10

Hit the MEG festival’s Electro-choc, a free outdoor dance party downtown. Place des Festivals (Quartier des Spectacles), 10 p.m.
